Project overview

One contractor. One coordinated package.

1st 4 Fencing Services Ltd was selected as the first-choice primary fencing contractor for a major new-build school project.

The client needed one contractor to deliver the metalwork, timber work and concrete works as one coordinated package. We drew on our experience of completing other new-build schools for the same client and worked to the strict programme needed to open the school on schedule.

  • Security fencing
  • Sports enclosures
  • Timber fencing
  • Gate systems

Scope of works

Four parts of one school-wide installation

Multi-coloured bow-top railings beside green weld mesh fencing at the new-build school

01

Bow-top play-area railings

We installed multi-coloured bow-top railings around the play areas. The finished run formed a vibrant, mural-like centrepiece for the school's SEN section.

02

Sports facility fencing

The sports package included 2.4m weld mesh around the netball court and 4.2m ball-stop mesh around the 4G artificial football pitch.

Traditional timber palisade fencing installed beside the school sports field

03

Timber fencing

We fitted extensive runs of heavy-duty timber close-board fencing, with traditional timber palisade fencing used for internal partitioning.

04

Gate systems

We fabricated and installed approximately 52 gates. Eight served the 4G pitch, alongside mesh perimeter gates, fire access routes, pedestrian access points and heavy-duty vehicle gates.

Phasing

Built around the main contractor's schedule

The work ran for approximately eight months across two planned phases.

  1. 1

    Phase one

    Secure the boundary

We installed the perimeter mesh fencing first. This secured the site so the other trades could work safely inside the boundary.

  2. 2

    Phase two

    Complete the internal package

We then installed the internal fencing and gates, sports enclosures and multi-coloured play-area boundaries while coordinating with the other trades on site.

Outcome

Open on time and ready for the community

The school opened on time. The client was especially pleased with the multi-coloured bow-top railings and the visual centrepiece they created.

It was rewarding to see the local community and children safely using the new facilities, particularly the 4G pitch.
