How long does a garden fence usually last?+
A well-installed timber fence on concrete posts and gravel boards typically lasts 15-20 years. Standard timber posts sunk into soil last 8-12 years depending on drainage and exposure.
Do I need planning permission?+
Not usually — fences up to 2m in rear gardens and 1m facing a highway are permitted development. Listed buildings, conservation areas and article 4 zones have tighter rules. We'll flag anything unusual before we quote.
Who owns the fence between me and my neighbour?+
The deed plan is the definitive answer. As a rule of thumb the boundary marked with a T on your side is your responsibility. We're happy to talk through options if ownership is unclear.
How long does installation take?+
A typical 15-20m garden run takes one to two days. Larger jobs, or ones requiring old concrete removal, get a firm schedule when we quote.
